During onset of spring, trees shed leaves and much of this gets burnt in villages. As a step to prevent this burning GLT team conducted a leaf exchange drive in a few villages. We remunerated the inhabitants for the number of gunny bags of dry leaves they provide. The aim was to inhibit the habit of burning dry leaves which were the major reason for environment pollution through a forest fire.
Dried leaves serve as excellent manure for the soil. We explained the various advantages of dried leaves to the villagers. Few of them exchanged sacks of leaves for money and the rest preserved it for manuring purposes. This event was a simple demonstration of managing leaf waste into useful farm product serving the core principle of GLT sustainability through locally available resources.
